Congratulations Heather Wright! We are PROUD to announce the winner of our Melissa Anson Jarrell, DDS College Scholarship for 2017. The Community Foundation of Kokomo helped us award Heather as the recipient. Here is Heather's bio:
Heather Wright is a senior at Butler University majoring in
music performance and minoring in chemistry. At Butler she studies bassoon
under Dr. Spaniol and plays in the orchestra and wind ensemble. She has served
as the president of the Zeta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota, a music fraternity of
women. She has also served as the fundraising chair for Food Recovery Network
which donates left over food from campus dining halls to the Julian Center, a
center for victims of domestic violence. She frequently volunteers at the
Indiana University Dental Clinic assisting patients with sign-in, and is a
member of the Butler Pre-Dental Club. This summer she will be applying to
dental school and working on her honors thesis involving the use of music in
easing anxiety felt by dental patients. Last summer she was fortunate to shadow
Dr. Melissa Jarrell and Dr. Clarisa Oliveira in the office. Last semester
Heather was chosen as a Butler Top 100 Student from the entire university. She
has also made the Dean’s List each semester and is a two-time winner of the Tri
Kappa Local Collegiate Scholarship. This year she was chosen as one of the Tri
Kappa State Collegiate Scholarship recipients. She enjoys playing the bassoon
in community orchestras and bands such as the Kokomo Park Band and Carmel
Symphony Orchestra. She hopes to enter dental school after graduating next May.
