Dr. Melissa Jarrell and her Team will host Smiles for VETS (in conjunction with Dentistry From The Heart) - providing 100's of U.S. Veterans with free dental care on Friday Sept. 8, 2023.

Kokomo, IN - Friday Sept. 8, 2023: Dr. Melissa Jarrell and team will host their 10th annual Dentistry From The Heart (DFTH) event - providing a free day of dental care to the first one hundred veterans of Indiana.
The line begins at 8 am, so come early and bring a chair. We ask patients to bring a photo ID. Dentistry From The Heart patients travel from across Indiana to Dr. Melissa Jarrell's Kokomo dental practice for the annual free day of dentistry. Doors open at 9 am and dental services will be offered until 3 pm.
In 2001, Dentistry From The Heart started with a Florida dentist, Dr. Vincent Monticciolo, as a way to give back to the community and provide aid to the growing number of Americans without dental insurance. Since its inception, Dentistry From The Heart has grown to include over 250 annual events nationwide and provided more than 50,000 people with free dental care services.
Annually, Dr. Jarrell and her team of dentists, volunteers and sponsors provide the first 100 patients with a free exam, emergency dental care, extractions, fillings, periodontal maintenance, cleanings, oral cancer screening, and/or oral hygiene instructions. This is the 10th annual event for Dr. Melissa Jarrell, who has donated more than $750,000 in free dental care to Howard County residents in the last 22 years.
“It all comes down to wanting to provide something greater to my community,” said Dr. Melissa Jarrell. “The services provided by Dentistry From The Heart for our SMILES FOR VETS Event helps more than just a patients teeth, it gives them a renewed reason to smile. We plan to honor our Veterans by focusing this event for them, serving hot dogs, pizza and apple pie and having a FUN day.”

Dentistry From The Heart is a registered non-profit organization that provides free dental care for those in need. In the past eleven years, Dentistry From The Heart events have contributed more than $15 million in free dentistry and helped more than
50,000 patients across the country.

Why Did I Start Smiles for VETS free dental day?
"I started Smiles for VETS free dental day because I wanted to give back to our community in a bigger way. We currently provide a lot of charity dentistry with Project Access of Howard County and Donated Dental Services for the State of Indiana, but I knew there was a greater need and I wanted to do more. With the cuts in the VA benefits and the fact that our veterans have to drive an hour or more to get dental care at the VA, I thought they would benefit from our services the most. It is my honor and privilege to help our veterans have a beautiful and healthy smile."
Why do I continue to host this event year after year?
"My team and I LOVE Smiles for VETS day! It is the highlight of our year. It is so rewarding to host this free dental day. We have several dentists, hygienists, and assistants from other Kokomo dental offices helping us each year, so it's a fun day. At the end of the busy day of charity, it feels great to know you helped patients (that normally cannot afford care) get out of pain and infection."
